6 Best AI Personal Trainer Apps & Gym Alternatives

By GymStreak team · Updated

We make GymStreak, one of the listed apps, and GymLevels. This is an editorial comparison, not an independent test. Each app’s published features are sourced below. We don’t list prices.

The short answer

Fitbod is our first shortlist stop for recovery-aware workout generation; Alpha Progression suits precise progression targets. GymStreak is the pick when AI planning and weekly streaks belong together. Boostcamp and Strong are included as alternatives for readers who prefer a program or their own routine.

How we chose these apps

We prioritize published personalization inputs, progression guidance and the difference between generating a session and following a program. Order reflects that planning focus, not a measured performance score. The final two entries are deliberately non-AI alternatives.

We checked official websites, help centres and developer store descriptions on 14 October 2026. This is a desk comparison of published features, not a timed usability test or proof of training results. We separate confirmed features from our best-for judgments, omit unverified claims and do not use store ratings to rank apps. GymStreak and GymLevels claims were checked against their app source code.

01 / Adaptive next-workout suggestions

Fitbod

Fitbod generates strength sessions from your goals, experience and equipment. Its published approach uses logged training, muscle recovery and progressive overload to personalize the next session. This makes it a useful starting point when your main question is which exercises, weights and reps to do today.

The verdict: Pick Fitbod when recovery-aware session generation is your priority. If you already follow a coach’s fixed program, a manual logger may be a closer fit.

02 / Set-level progression guidance

Alpha Progression

Alpha Progression Pro generates plans using goals, equipment, training frequency and session duration. It recommends weights and repetitions from your recorded performance, including the weight increments available at your gym. Its manual plans and unlimited workout logging are available in the permanent basic version.

The verdict: Pick Alpha Progression for explicit weight-and-repetition targets and optional periodization and deloads. Plan generation and progression recommendations need Pro.

Free manual plans and unlimited logging; generator and recommendations need Pro.

03 / AI planning with weekly streaks

GymStreak

GymStreak builds a weekly gym plan around your goal, training days, session length, equipment and injuries. Its AI assistant helps with training questions. Logging sets feeds a separate motivation layer: XP, gym ranks, badges and quests. The streak counts consecutive weeks in which you meet your workout goal, rather than demanding a workout every day.

The verdict: Choose Hevy or Strong if you already have a program and want ongoing workout logging without a subscription. Starting and logging workouts in GymStreak requires Premium.

Free onboarding and generated plan; workout logging and AI assistant require Premium.

04 / Adaptive planning and routine discovery

JEFIT

JEFIT combines a workout log, customizable routines and a library of training plans. Its Adaptive Plan is described as analyzing strength and fatigue to build the next week. You can also choose your exercises, rest times, supersets, equipment and training frequency manually.

The verdict: Pick JEFIT when choosing and customizing programs matters more than a focused weekly-streak experience. Check which adaptive and analysis features your membership includes.

05 / Following an established program

Boostcamp

Boostcamp combines a training-program library with workout logging and a custom program builder. Its own access comparison says the core tracker includes RPE/RIR fields, supersets, drop sets and a plate calculator in its ongoing basic tier. It suits lifters who want to select a program and work through it.

The verdict: Pick Boostcamp for following an established program rather than asking a conversational coach to design your week. Pro adds further analysis and selected coach content.

Free core workout logging, program library and custom builder; optional Pro extras.

06 / A simple log for your own routine

Strong

Strong’s workout templates let you repeat a routine rather than rebuild it every session. The official help centre allows three saved templates in the basic version; Pro removes that template limit. This is a useful manual alternative when you already know your exercise selection and only need to record the work.

The verdict: Pick Strong for repeating your own routine. It is included as a manual alternative, not as an AI personal trainer or an automatic plan generator.

Free workout logging with up to three saved templates; Pro removes the template limit.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI gym app should I start with?

Start with Fitbod for recovery-aware sessions, Alpha Progression for set-level progression, or GymStreak for AI planning with weekly streaks. Match the app to the decision you want it to make.

Are all six apps AI personal trainers?

No. Boostcamp is included for selecting established programs and Strong for manual logging. An app does not need AI to be the right training companion.

Does an AI trainer check my form?

Do not assume that a plan generator watches your lifts. None of the planning features compared here watch your lifts or check your form. Seek qualified instruction when learning a movement.
