6 Best Workout Tracker Apps: What Logs for Free?
By GymStreak team · Updated
We make GymStreak, one of the listed apps, and GymLevels. This is an editorial comparison, not an independent test. Each app’s published features are sourced below. We don’t list prices.
The short answer
StrengthLog is our first pick for unlimited basic logging; Hevy is the social pick, Strong suits repeating your own routines, Boostcamp adds programs and FitNotes is an Android notebook. GymStreak is a paid-logging alternative: its free tier does not include starting or logging workouts.

How we chose these apps
Ongoing workout logging without a subscription is the first criterion, followed by the reason to choose a particular log: social accountability, saved routines, program selection or Android simplicity. GymStreak is last because it does not meet the free-logging requirement.
We checked official websites, help centres and developer store descriptions on 14 October 2026. This is a desk comparison of published features, not a timed usability test or proof of training results. We separate confirmed features from our best-for judgments, omit unverified claims and do not use store ratings to rank apps. GymStreak and GymLevels claims were checked against their app source code.
01 / Unlimited basic workout logging
StrengthLog
StrengthLog’s own workout-log guide says exercise instructions and workout tracking remain available without a subscription, including unlimited logged workouts. It is a straightforward shortlist choice when preserving a continuing training log matters more than an AI conversation or an RPG presentation.
The verdict: Pick StrengthLog when unlimited basic logging is the deciding requirement. Some programs and advanced features belong to Premium; do not assume every feature is included.
Free unlimited workout logging and exercise instructions; optional Premium features.

02 / Logging with friends
Hevy
Hevy describes its core app as a workout tracker for iOS and Android. Its logging tools include routines, rest timers and exercise notes, with progress charts and personal records. Following athletes, viewing their training and saving routines make it a good choice when shared activity is your motivation.
The verdict: Pick Hevy over GymStreak when social accountability and ongoing basic workout logging are your priorities. Check current routine and history limits before moving a large training archive.
Free core workout tracking; optional Pro features and limits apply.

03 / A simple log for your own routine
Strong
Strong’s workout templates let you repeat a routine rather than rebuild it every session. The official help centre allows three saved templates in the basic version; Pro removes that template limit. This is a useful manual alternative when you already know your exercise selection and only need to record the work.
The verdict: Pick Strong for repeating your own routine; Pro removes the template limit.
Free workout logging with up to three saved templates; Pro removes the template limit.

04 / Following an established program
Boostcamp
Boostcamp combines a training-program library with workout logging and a custom program builder. Its own access comparison says the core tracker includes RPE/RIR fields, supersets, drop sets and a plate calculator in its ongoing basic tier. It suits lifters who want to select a program and work through it.
The verdict: Pick Boostcamp for following an established program rather than asking a conversational coach to design your week. Pro adds further analysis and selected coach content.
Free core workout logging, program library and custom builder; optional Pro extras.

05 / An Android gym notebook
FitNotes
FitNotes is an Android workout log built around entering exercises and tracking training history. Its own site positions the app as a focused gym log. For someone already working from a written program, that narrow job can be an advantage over adding a coaching or role-playing layer.
The verdict: Pick the original Android FitNotes for a basic gym notebook. Do not confuse it with similarly named iPhone apps from other developers.
Free Android workout log; check the original developer’s listing.

06 / AI planning with weekly streaks
GymStreak
GymStreak builds a weekly gym plan around your goal, training days, session length, equipment and injuries. Its AI assistant helps with training questions. Logging sets feeds a separate motivation layer: XP, gym ranks, badges and quests. The streak counts consecutive weeks in which you meet your workout goal, rather than demanding a workout every day.
The verdict: Choose Hevy or Strong if you already have a program and want ongoing workout logging without a subscription. Starting and logging workouts in GymStreak requires Premium.
Free onboarding and generated plan; workout logging and AI assistant require Premium.

Frequently asked questions
Which apps let me log workouts for free?
StrengthLog, Hevy, Strong, Boostcamp and the original Android FitNotes offer ongoing core logging without a subscription. Saved routines, analytics and program access can have separate limits.
Can I log workouts in GymStreak’s free tier?
No. Onboarding and a generated plan are available, but starting and logging workouts requires GymStreak Premium. Choose one of the other listed logs if ongoing free logging is essential.
Does free logging mean every feature is included?
No. For example, Strong limits saved templates in its basic version and Boostcamp has optional Pro extras. Compare the specific logging workflow and limits you need, not just the download button.
