Treadmill Workouts

The treadmill lets you walk, hike on an incline or run indoors at a pace you control. It is weight-bearing cardio, closest to what you do in everyday life.

About the treadmill

A motorised belt moves beneath you while you set the speed and incline. Walking on an incline raises the effort without running, which makes it a popular low-impact option. Clip the safety key to your clothing so the belt stops if you slip.

02

How to train with it

Start the belt slowly before stepping on, look ahead rather than down and let your arms swing naturally rather than gripping the handrails. For walking workouts, increase incline before speed. For running, build weekly time gradually to give your joints and tendons time to adapt.

03

Choosing exercises

Brisk or incline walking is a great starting point; add running intervals when you're ready. At least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week is the adult guideline, and walking counts.
